history

Born sometime in the 1920, Namor's history is long, storied and complicated. He does not fit in any single category, being hero, villain, anti-hero--even completely indifferent over his long tenure in the Marvel Universe.

CITZENSHIP: Namor is the ruler of Atlantis but due to his father's nationality is also able to legally claim American citizenship. Leonard McKenzie is a native of Boston, MA even though he was in the employ of the British Navy when he was rescued by Namor's mother, Princess Fen. However as King of Atlantis his status is much as other monarchs, not requiring formal identification as he is the source of civil documentation in his kingdom, much like the United Kingdom's Queen Elizabeth II. 'FIRST' MUTANT: nearly 25 years before the term 'mutant' was introduced to the Marvel Lexicon, Namor was considered an oddity. Not only because of his human/Atlantean hybrid nature that allows him to breathe in air as well as water but the wings on his ankles that allow him fight, a trait not shared by either of his genetic heritages. The ankle wings did not appear until Namor was 14, around the typical age that mutagenic traits begin to appear due to puberty. Even though there are beings older than Namor (like Apocalypse), he is still often referred to as 'The First Mutant'
LINE TO THE THRONE: Even with his half-human heritage, Emperor Thakorr chose not to remove him from the line of succession due to his own lack of sons, even though he had a step-son by marriage, Byrrah. The appointment of Namor as heir to the throne would lead to years of conflict between the two and numerous civil wars for control of the Atlantean throne CLONE CLUB: Cloning is specifically banned in Atlantis due to clone rebellion against the throne in the distant past. The final battle was called 'Day of the Long Spears' and was a turning point in Atlantean society. Scientitfic research was severely limited by the throne and those caught engaging in cloning were banished. Ironically, one of Namor's closest allies, his cousin 'Namorita' (named for her royal cousin) is a clone of her mother, Aquaria Neptunia.
ECO-TERROIST: Namor's many conflicts with the surface world revolve around their treatment of the ocean and how their pollutants and other incursions hurt his people. As Atlantis' diplomatic emmisary, he has made it clear that the sovereigncy of the sea is Atlantis' and any attack on it will be dealt with. Namor has declared war on the 'surface world' numerous times, putting him at conflict with many past allies including Captain America and the Fantastic Four EXPANSE: Namnor's kingdom encompasses much of the Atlantic Ocean. The original capital city was located on a small continent between what is now Europe and North America near Iceland that was sunk approxiamtely 21,000 years ago during the Great Cataclysm. There are also cities located in the Southern Atlantic near Antartica known as Tha-Korr after Namor's grandfather, Byrrah (after Namor's cousin and Thakorr's step-son)
HOMO MERMANUS: The origins of Homo mermanus are lost to history but there is a theory that they are somehow linked to the Inhumans and the Cestials, a race of a species of powerful extraterrestrial cosmic beings. It is no surprise that the ancient location of Attilan is located in the borders of the original Atlantean Empire. WAKANDA: The rulers of the hidden surface Kingdom of Wakanda and Atlantis barely tolerate each other. It is ironic since Captain America, on for Namor's long-time allies from WWII, fought alongside King Abruzzi and his son, T'Chaka--T'Challa's grandfather and father. Though the two have worked together through the Avengers and the secret Illluminati, the later group is what lead to the current enmity. During the last incursion of Thanos to Earth serching for the Infinity Gems, Namor claimed that they were located in Wakanda in order to save his own kingdom. Wakanda and Atlantis have been in a state of war ever since.

romances

Namor is only rivaled (barely) by Tony Stark in his reputation as a 'ladies man'. Unrepentantly appreciative of the female form in all of its many configurations, human, Atlantean and alien have all fallen to the charm of Namor. Perferably blonde. Never redhead.
